ITALIAN COWBOYS

An American eye on the heart of Maremma

The photographic exhibition, conceived as a “widespread ride” through evocative and engaging images, also in large format, will be set up in the spaces of the Winery on Via Bolgherese. It offers a face-to-face dialogue between two cultures: that of the American West, dear to the artist, and that of the Maremma, her newly chosen homeland, both of which have historically placed the horse at the center of their storytelling.

Gabrielle Saveri, a California-based photographer of Italian descent, has worked extensively on this project, captivated by the powerful yet elegant relationship between humans and horses, a bond that the butteri have long embodied. For them, the traditional Maremma jacket stands as the most distinctive expression of an unmistakable “Italian style.”

IT IS ABOUT TIME

The journey aimed at connecting the history of the Bolgheri area with the work of contemporary artists continues.

For 2025, Alice Guareschi has been invited to engage with the landscape of the Caccia al Piano estate through a single artwork, part of her series of metal texts that appear as captions suspended in mid-air.

IT IS ABOUT TIME is a work that speaks of the power of time in relation to life, a simple statement that stands out amidst one of the estate’s vineyards, near the historic Via Bolgherese. A message that, now more than ever, highlights the sometimes crucial relationship between time and the winemaking process. Without time’s careful management, plants do not reproduce, fruits do not grow, and the grapes cannot be transformed into wine. Time is everything, along with weather conditions, soil, lunar phases, and sunlight, all elements that have been at the heart of the artworks previously hosted by Caccia al Piano.

The artwork is also conceived to engage in dialogue with Remo Salvadori’s large iron “sprout,” installed on the winery façade in 2024, Ettore Favini’s work on paper, and Anders Holen’s suspended piece in the historic cellars, together forming a unified journey between the interior spaces and the vineyards.
IT IS ABOUT TIME unfolds across the landscape like a marginal note, a firm reminder of the importance of time in every vital element. Time has the power to transform, to produce, to sprout, or to evoke something that reaches toward the eternal.
