Grottaia Rosso


A brilliant ruby red heralds a forthright, pleasing wine. A nose of intense red berry with cherry leading the way, accompanied by a peppery note of fresh vegetables. in the mouth, it is supple, well-structured, and fragrant, with very subtle tannins that underscore its quality as a good early-drinker.


50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon


The 2018 winter was a severe one, with February bringing multiple days of sub-zero temperatures. Spring was marked by substantial rains, which made it challenging to keep up with explosive vine growth and with the high risks of fungal infection. Summer brought relief, with average temperatures and good day-night temperature differentials, all of which contributed to a normal harvest in the vineyards of Caccia al Piano 1868.


The grapes were picked by hand and placed in 12kg boxes, with separate harvest by variety and parcel. Quality selection of grapes preceded destemming, followed by maceration in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature. Fermentation began at this point and lasted for about two weeks, followed by racking and malolactic fermentation. Maturation was exclusively in steel tanks.
