Grottaia Rosato

The wine appears a luminous, come-hither pink. The nose opens to an intriguing florality, while the palate is crisp, refreshing, and well-balanced, with delicate fruit fragrances. It is ideal when partnered with fish or vegetables, shellfish and seafood in general.

Syrah 70%, Petit Verdot 30%

The 2018 winter was a severe one, with February bringing multiple days of sub-zero temperatures. Spring was marked by substantial rains, which made it challenging to keep up with explosive vine growth and with the high risks of fungal infection. Summer brought relief, with average temperatures and good day-night temperature differentials, all of which contributed to a normal harvest in the vineyards of Caccia al Piano 1868.

The two grape varieties were harvested and fermented separately. The grapes were de-stemmed then given a brief, 10-16-hour maceration on the skins at low temperatures to maximise extraction of aromatic precursors. The juice is then gently pressed off and is fermented at 16oC in stainless-steel tanks for two weeks. The wine then matures sur lie for 3 months, and is bottled in the spring.
